Paton-Churdan, Greene County students advance to state speech contest

Speech teams from both high schools in Greene County had successful days at the district contest for individual events held at Dowling Catholic High School in West Des Moines last Saturday.

The Paton-Churdan team fielded six events, all of which earned “I” ratings and will advance to the state contest.

Students and their events include Garion Consier, musical theatre; Jacob Bundt, spontaneous speaking; Robin Consier, public address; Bayllie Flynn, prose; Samantha Joy, literary program; and Autumn Johnson, musical theatre.

The Greene County team took 26 events, with 20 of them receiving “I” ratings as follows: Lakota Larson, original oratory and expository; Danielle Johnson, solo musical; Jack Schilling, prose, poetry; Regan Lamoureux, prose, poetry; Emily Heupel, public address; David Petersen, solo musical, poetry; Aly Matthews, after dinner; Hannah Onken, prose, radio news; Shannon Brown, radio news; Jordan King, original oratory, improvisation; Victoria Sims, solo musical, acting; Jamie Theulen, expository; and Cole DeHoet, after dinner speaking. They advance to the state contest.

Greene County students earned “II” ratings as follows: Brittany Richardson, poetry, storytelling; Aly Matthews, prose; Danielle Johnson, spontaneous speaking; Shannon Brown, literary program; and Cheli Stroburg, radio news.
